MUM'S APPLE CRUMBLE
3-6 bramleys or other tart applesblackberries if there's any around
8oz self-raising flour
4oz butter + a bit
4oz sugar + a bit
cinnamon and cloves
Slice the apples and layer in an oven-safe dish. Sprinkle a bit of sugar and cinnamon between the layers, and dot in a few cloves. Pour in water so it comes up to about an inch or so. In a mixing bowl, crumble butter and flour together. Add the sugar at the end, then sprinkle the crumble over the layered apples. Put a few thin slices of butter on top of the crumble. Bake at mid-temperature for about 40 minutes.
